If the finish of the ceiling assumes its coloring, then you need to familiarize yourself with some rules. Ceilings need to be painted first, so that the paint drops do not fall on the finished surface of the walls. Apply the dye carefully, even if such procedures reduce the speed of work. The whole technological process can be divided into several stages:
Preparation of tools and materials;
Choice and purchase of paint;
Connection of illuminating devices;
Preparation of the foundation;
How to paint the ceiling with water-based paint
At the moment, water based paints are widely used for finishing the most diverse surfaces of living spaces (ceilings, walls). Coloring the ceiling with such a dye will create a porous (vapor permeable) surface, which will help the ceiling breathe.
To carry out the work you will need:
Water to dissolve the paint.
Water-based paints can be produced in the following varieties: glossy, semi-matt, matt. What kind of paint to choose depends on you – matte paint can hide some defects in the ceiling, and glossy is better to use for a perfectly flat surface.
Preparatory works include cleaning the surface and sealing joints with plaster or putty. If there is a significant amount of cracks on the surface of the ceiling, they are sealed with a construction bandage and treated with a primer, and when it dries, they fill and smooth out the irregularities. If the ceiling does not have defective surfaces, it is washed, but only after drying.
Paints ceilings with water-based paint rollers with a long nap, because these devices allow for a short time to cover large areas of paint. The edges of the surface near the walls are neatly dyed with a paint brush.
Work starts from the corner of the surface to the middle of the room. It is recommended to start work in the adjoining areas of the ceiling. After painting the ceiling in the longitudinal direction, the paint is smeared at an angle of 90 degrees. To achieve an even distribution of the layers, follow the work done – move a little and look at the painted surface, if there are no painted areas, paint them. The drying time of the surface is indicated on the container with the paint, if it is necessary to repeat the painting, follow it after the previous layer has dried completely.
Painting the ceiling without streaks
The ceiling is painted with a wide roller using water dispersed paint. After the end of the work, consider the surface covered with dyes – small flaws are easy to notice, therefore they need to be painted over with a dense (undiluted) paint with the help of a paint brush. Now we produce the color of the ceiling without divorce. Take a thick paint and apply the first layer, moving from the edges of the room to the center. The work is done with a medium pile roller, the strips should be slightly overlapped.
For the coloring of the ceiling without divorce, you must maintain a pause between painting and wait for the complete drying of the laid layer. The next layer of paint is laid perpendicular to the previous one, all non-painted areas overlap with the movement of the roller.
How to paint a plasterboard ceiling
Ceilings from plasterboard sheets are painted with water-emulsion or water-dispersion compositions.
Pigments are applied with a paintbrush, roller and spray. Brushes are used for painting hard-to-reach places (joints of the ceiling and walls), and the roller and spray can paint the rest of the surface.
The painting of the plasterboard ceiling starts from the corner. First, paint the docking spots with a brush, then take the roller and apply longitudinal strips up to one meter wide. Then, grab the same strip, making the overlap of the layers up to 10 centimeters wide. When using a water-based paint, several passes are made in the longitudinal and transverse directions, without waiting for the drying of the previous layer.
Painting the ceiling with a roller
To paint on the ceiling, you should choose a roller with medium or long nap, foam pads for similar work are not used. Work is carried out in the following order:
We dilute the paint and pour it into a special container;
We immerse the roller in the dye and get rid of its excess by rolling the working surface along the ribbed part of the tray;
It should be ensured that the paint on the roller is distributed evenly;
An extension cord is applied and the first layer is applied. The color starts from the far corner, dividing the surface of the ceiling into several strips;
Work must be done quickly to prevent the edges of the previous strip from drying out. The paint is leveled evenly, the overlap of adjacent strips should be within 8-10 centimeters;
To obtain a qualitative surface of the ceiling, it is painted with several layers in different directions, and the last layer must be laid in the direction of the windows;
Before applying an overlapping layer, make sure that the paint of the previous layer has dried.
How to paint the ceiling with acrylic paint
Paints on acrylic base have the following advantages: resistance to impurities, elasticity, good water-repellent properties, resistance to friction and exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Acrylic paints well cover any surface, quickly dry and do not emit an unpleasant odor when dry.
Before applying acrylic paint on the surface, you need to protect all interior items and floor with a polyethylene film. The ceiling is cleaned of dust and old whitewash, cracks and wait for the hardening of the putty. After that, the surface is primed to improve its adhesion to the paint.
Acrylic paint is diluted with water until the desired consistency is obtained. If a dry film appears on the dye surface when mixing the components, it must be removed from the container. With the right proportions, a paint is obtained, which can cover the ceiling in a single layer. To apply pigments to the surface use paint brushes (small areas or hard-to-reach places) or roller (to cover large surfaces). The sequence of operations using the roller is described above.
